Shower

This painting was based on a screen shot from the TV show Smallville. I saw it online and thought it would make a really awesome looking painting.

The only real downfall is that it was based on an SD screen shot, so there wasn't tons of detail to go off. Which meant I had to fill in a lot of the small details on my own.

Lisa

This is one of my favorite digital paintings but it also took the longest. Getting the skin just right, the reflection on the glasses, the shine on the hair, the shape of the lips etc. took forever!

I learned a lot of techniques while doing this painting. Manipulating photoshop to act like paint isn't an exact science and it took me a while to get it just right.

This is a close up of the face, there is where you can actually see some of the details and brush strokes.

If you look closely you'll see all the reflections on the lips and nose, the individual eye lashes and the transparencies in the glasses.

Lisa Hair C/U

In this zoomed view of the hair you can see tons of little details that normally don't notice. These little details are things that the subconcious picks up on and make the painting that much more realistic.

I spent a lot of time creating stray strands and highlights on specific strands to give the hair that realistic look.

These pieces take so long I'm not always able to actually finish a painting in it's entirty. I worked on this portion here for weeks. Spending time on the eye lashes, hair and eyes.

I usually end up picking up pieces like this again when I have some free times on my hands. I'm confident I'll finish this project at some point.

Milian

I found the photo I based this on while flipping through a magazine. I loved the lighting and the pose so I immediately ripped it out and scanned it in.

This was a pretty challenging project and the hair teeth and highlights on the skin were really tough to nail down.

This is the painting at a 1:1 ratio. At this distance you can clearly see brush strokes and imperfections. The teeth were really important for me to get right.

They are very bold and stand out, so they had to look realistic or the painting wouldn't have worked.

Bellucci

This was a really interesting piece to work on, I combined a bunch of pieces to come up with the final composition. There was also a lot of fabric which presented a whole new challenge.

First I found an amazing photograph of Monica Bellucci to base the painting on. Then I combined various piece of cathedral artwork and some images of stan glass windows and manipulated them to create the background.

In this piece i decided to not go as photorealistic so I exaggerated a few areas, namely the eyes. The eye lasher are especially whispy, and the eyes are overall slightly larger.

Reaper

This is a variation of the Monica Bellucci painting. After the Bellucci piece was done, it felt pretty ominous to me. So i decided to make a version that took that feeling to the next level.

I found an amazing skull to work from, I took the base then holes, scratches, cracks and decay to various parts.

Scarlett

This painting came from a super stylized photo of Scarlett Johansson. There were strange reflections in her eye and her hair was really unsual and her skin was realy pale and overblown.

I thought this would make this panting stand out and look really striking. While that was the case, it also made this painting really difficult to finish.

At this distance you can see all the fine detail in the eyebrows, eyes and nose. The nose on this piece was really interesting, there were tons of highlights and shadows to take advantage of.

Rachel Weisz

This piece is still a work in progress, the hair alone in this piece has taken hours and isn't even close to being done. the foundation of the piece is all here, it's all fine detail work now.

Her eyes still need lots of shadows and highlights and her lips need to be refined. Even thought this piece needs a lot of work, I feel like it totally captures the essence of the original photograph.

Here you can see some of the work I was doing on the eyes. They eye lashes are still really rough, the pupils and irises still need a bunch of work too.

This piece is interesting because everything has an amber hue, even the whites are orangy.
